Assessment

Since September 2015, Ashgate Croft School have not been using National Curriculum levels to assess pupils; p-levels have remained in place. All assessment against the National Curriculum 2014 is done using a programme called B squared (B2). Pupils working at p-levels will be assessed against updated assessment criteria. The way we assess pupils working above p8 has changed; pupils are assessed against new B2 levels (which are based on end of year expectations from the National Curriculum). Pupils were base-lined in July 2015 and parents/carers were informed of new levels in September 2015. All new pupils are baselined after they have been with us for a term.

Below describes briefly how pupils in each key stage, including EYFS, are assessed and set targets.

EYFS

The Derbyshire Small Steps will be used to base-line pupils and then set targets based on starting points and pupils' profiles, pupils will be assessed at the end of each term and progress tracked.

Key Stages 1-3

Pupils are assessed using p-levels and B2 levels (which are based on end of year expectations). Targets are set using rates of progress from the National Progression Guidance (in Maths, English, Science, PSHE and Computing). Other subjects are assessed using p-levels and the new levels (see below for more information).

Key Stage 4

Pupils are assessed in Functional English and Maths using the Adult curriculum and using pre-milestones/milestones/entry levels. Pupils are assessed using p-levels and B2 levels (which are based on end of year expectations) in Science, PSHE and Computing. Targets are set using rates of progress from the National Progression Guidance .Other subjects are assessed using p-levels and the new levels (see below for more information). Additionally, in KS4 pupils will be set targets in OCR for Personal Social Development (PSD), Independent Living Skills (ILS), Vocational and Community.

Key Stage 5

Pupils are assessed in Functional English and Maths using the Adult curriculum and using pre-milestones/milestones/entry levels.
Targets are set using rates of progress from the National Progression Guidance. They will be assessed in Science and Computing as other key stages. Additionally, in KS5 pupils will be set targets in OCR for Personal Social Development (PSD), Independent Living Skills (ILS), Vocational and Community.

End of Year Assessment

For all pupils, end of year assessment will be against their end of year/key stage targets and recorded as no progress/working towards/achieved/exceeded. Their progress will be tracked throughout the year. For other subjects, pupils will be assessed against p-levels/new levels and this will be recorded as emerging/working within/achieved for each level, so that it is easier to track progress within levels.

Pupils with PMLD are additionally assessed using the PMLD assessment. Pupils are tracked throughout the year and pupil progress is recorded as satisfactory/good/outstanding. Pupil progress for these learners also takes into account their attendance.
